Conservation in your beauty routine

Reduce, re-use and recycle… We all know the mantra, but are you aware that there are many ways to minimize your impact the environment in your beauty habits?

Ditch the brand travel size products

One question I get a lot from my guests is if I have travel size shampoo & conditioner. And no I do not sell them in my studio. I am happy of course to order them for a guest. But they are more expensive per ounce and each time you toss and purchase another you are adding more plastics to our waste system. Instead of offering travel size products I keep reusable travel sets. The only products not able to be added to a reusable travel set is anything like a hairspray or mouse.

Smart product usage

Did you know that all professional products are super concentrated? If you have used non-professional products you may get a little sticker shock at first. But a professional product will last much longer than it’s non-professional counterpart. How do you use professional products correctly? A little goes a long way. For shampoo your hair needs to be very wet then add a little water to your hands. Start the lather in your hands then add to your hair. You can also shampoo with a small amount of shampoo in quadrants (top of the head, back of the head and etc). Conditioner also needs to be added to wet hair and then use a wet brush to distribute the conditioner to all the hair. Lastly, styling products should be used sparingly and then comb thought.

Sleep sweet to protect your style

The bed is often the place where our hair is often treated the worst. So how can we protect our hair? Sleep satin or silk pillow cases. Cotton bedding absorbs all the moisture from our hair and skin. And is a rough surface causing friction. Other options to add as well are sleep bonnets, braids or a top bun.

Reduce your shampoo usage

So often over shampooing is the cause of over oil production. And removes the natural oils from our hair. So how do we skip the shampoo in the shower? Try spraying your hair with water and restyling. Need more oils removed? Jump in the shower and rinse your hair then add conditioner to the ends of your hair and restyle. And lastly a top wash is a perfect way to add volume to the top of the head but not have to use all your hair products that day.

Do you need more tips for your specific hair challenges? Be sure to ask your stylist and they will have so many ideas for you. If you are a guest of mine it is my joy to help you conserve and use your hair products wisely.
