Summer vacay is set…is your hair ready?

We are all gearing up as the weather warms up here in South Charlotte. And if you are like me you are getting your summer plans all set up and the checklists are filling up as well. So what about your hair? Do you give those amazing strands a second thought during the summer months to ensure they are healthy, strong and your color is amazing?

At the pool & beach

The most obvious culprit to cause damage and strip color in the pool, especially a chlorine pool. So what can we do to protect our hair? Well if you're like me dunking is rare. But if your hair is going under the water you will want to pre-wet your hair with tap water. Then you can apply MalibuC's Leave-In conditioner mist with their new Swim Spritz added. This multifunctional Leave-In not only conditions and detangles, but also protects against UV and heat damage. When combined with Swim Spritz, you have the added benefit of neutralizing chlorine and chloramines in the hair, which lead to breakage and discoloration as they oxidize various minerals. You can purchase this duo by clicking here https://malibuc.com/shop/charlottehair. After leaving the pool use a gentle clarifying shampoo to remove any residue or minerals. This goes for the pool or beach.

Bring on the hydration

After you cleanse your hair be sure to follow up with a deep masque to hydrate and prevent dryness. If you will not be getting your hair wet in the pool or ocean, this is a great time to let a masque sit on your hair. Wet the ends of your hair with tap water and towel dry. Then apply your conditioning masque and braid or put it in a loose bun. The sun will help it to absorb fully into your hair and then later rinse and your hair will thank you. The masque can stay on the hair for a few hours or until the next day. If you are wearing extensions only wet the hair below the top of the extensions. It is only recommended to have the top of your hand-tied wefts wet for no more than 45 minutes.

SPF

On the days when you are outside be sure your hair products contain sunscreen. This is important for your hair and scalp.

Are you washing to often?

If you are more active during the summer or sweat more you may find you shampoo more than in the winter months. However, there are ways to prevent added shampooing. Sweat is simply salt on the hair and scalp. After a hard workout or outdoor activities try rinsing your hair with warm water then condition your ends. Often we shampoo as a habit not when the hair is actually dirty. Wet styling is also a great way to refresh hair without added shampoos.

Bring on more shine

Finally, adding a clear gloss to your hair after a color service is a great way to put another layer between your hair and the sun. Providing added shine and sealing your color in.

Be sure to check off the list of these tips before heading out in the sun. And if you need any product recommendations simply let me know at our next salon visit.
