How will the COVID-19 vaccine affect salons?

I know so many of my clients have the blessing to have received their shot or will be within the next few months. I am waiting as well for my turn. But with the current restrictions on salons of 50% capacity and mask requirements what will the future look like after we have all had our turn with the vaccine?

While I do not have a crystal ball for the future these are my imperfect predictions.

Masks will continue. How long you ask? Well the doctors I have listened to say that we need to get to 50-80% immunity to reach heard immunity. A large percentage of our population are electing to wait or not get the vaccine at all. I am guessing a year or more longer for the salon experience. And I personally will continue to ask for health updates from my clients and masks will be worn any time they are not feeling well in the studio. This will be especially important in the flu season moving forward. And I will continue to wear my mask in the studio until the CDC and state have removed restrictions. And that mask will be a staple any time I am feeling unwell or my client is.

50% capacity in the salons. I also see this being in place until we have all the population vaccinated in the first round or longer. And we understand how long the vaccine will stay viable. Hopefully for many businesses that thrive off of volume they will be able to get back to it in the next year or so. There are limited doses of the vaccine and according to the Cleveland clinic they are estimating the number of vaccines needed to make an impact on herd immunity will be fall or winter of 2022.

I for one am looking forward to getting the vaccine. Not because I love needles but I am so tired to being worried about how this illness can affect my business and family financially and logistically. And each one will take us closer to heard immunity and getting some kind of normal again.

I would be happy to be totally wrong and this all is wrapped up by the end of the year. And if I am wrong I will be so happy to be so.
