The difference between machine & hand-tied wefts for extensions

One of the reasons I source the hair for my Invisible Bead Extensions clients is to ensure the quality of the hair. But also to make sure the day of your installation there are no surprises. Some stylists allow their clients to purchase their own hair and for other methods that can be okay. But as an IBE specialist our method is different. We pride ourselves in ensuring the health of YOUR hair and that can not be done with just any weft extensions. So why does it matter? Let’s dive right in.

First let’s start with the most commonly sourced and less expensive wefts. The machine tied and flat weft. The cost is low as the hair is ran through a machine and it can spit out hair like a tasmanian devil. The top of the wefts are thicker and often have more hair on each weft than that of a hand-tied. The machine wefts can be cut and are stiffer. Quality of these wefts are also varied just like any other extensions.

Hand-tied wefts as you can see from the photo are so much thinner and delicate than the machine or flat wefts. They are called hand-tied because a person not a machine actually sits and attaches the hair to the wefts. That means each weft will take longer to make. Which is why the cost is higher for each weft. Hand-tied wefts allow stacking of multiple wefts to add color depth and density not easily achieved with machine. Hand-tied wefts are also softer, more comfortable and pliable for custom installations. We can fold and adjust the placement as needed for each guest. Check out this great video on how hand-tied wefts are created on instagram. Each individual wefts can take hours to create. And ensuring the hair I provide to my guests are sourced ethically and the person making the wefts are properly compensated are a top priority.

With the Invisible Bead Extensions method we sandwich the wefts on both side of the beads. Creating a row of extensions that is super comfortable. But if the wefts are to thick it places to much tension on your natural hair and can cause your hair to be pulled out from the scalp to early. Machine tied wefts should not be used in a IBE method and are only applied on the outside of the bead with a larger amount of hair to hold the added weight of the wefts.

So when your considering moving to the IBE method of applying your row of extensions the type of wefts are super important. And hand-tied are the only option to maintain the health of your natural hair. Which as a hair loss speciality is my top priority.
