What is all the crazy with hair extensions and how do you know which method is the right for you? Of course we can set up a consultation and dive into all the details. But if you are like me you want to know more. Like what kind are there? What is the difference between the methods? Why do some stylists only offer or specialize in one type. Well Here is the start to my blog series on hair extensions. Today I am starting with tape-in extensions.

Are you wanting dramatic changes to the length of your hair and short on time? Or perhaps you just need to add fullness and want to be in and out of the salon in a jiffy. Tape-in hair extensions are a quick way to get a big impact. There are so many brands that offer tape-ins and be sure to ask your stylist why they choose the brands they work with. I am always looking for the best quality for the best value for my clients. Other than value I am looking for how well they hold up over time and how easy it is to remove and reinstall. Why does that matter? Well my friend time is money and the quicker I can get them out and back in is money in your pocket.

So what’s the deal with tape-in? I will list the pros and cons and see how you stack up with making this the method for you.

Pros

  • Speed - did I mention you can install these extensions in as little as 15-30 minutes for volume. The max would be an hour and a half for a full head. To reinstall it will take time to remove, wash and re-tape. So there is some added time with that. Some brands do not require washing before re-taping. But they are not as thin and invisible in the hair.

  • Look So Natural - these beauties lay flat to the head and when professional installed blend seamlessly with your natural hair. They are also little sandwiches in your hair that provide a weft of coverage and swings beautifully.

  • Easy to care for - You can very easily find and comb int between each sandwich and if you are diligent in maintenance they are damage free.

  • Safe for fine hair- the hair is enclosed in the largest section together making it more difficult to cause damage from pulling or tugging.

Cons

So I am often asked how many bags we will need for an application. And that depends on the density of the hair, length you are wanting to add and overall style. For most all hair you can expect 1-2 packs of hair for fullness and volume. When you are looking to add length that is when density makes all the difference. For fine hair you can expect between 3-5 packages of hair, medium hair 4-6 bags of hair, thick hair will need 6-8 bags of hair. Most all extensions are reusable up to 3 times and last up to 6 months with proper home care. If you are amazing in your at home care you can often get a few more move-ups.

The initial installation can be in as fast at 45 minutes and less for adding volume. Re-installation can take around 60-90 minutes at the most. You can also expect to move up the extensions around 8-10 weeks depending on how fast you hair grow. Lengths available are 12”- 22” and the cost of the hair will vary on the length.
