When hair extensions are not going to cover it

Do you ever wonder if hair extensions are the answer to your thinning hair problem? I have clients frequently wondering if Invisible Beaded, Bonded, Tape-in or Cylinder hair extensions can give them the hair of their dreams. And often times the answer is of course YES! But there are areas of the head that simply adding density are not possible with these methods. Or there can be an underlying issue that needs to be resolved before moving into adding extensions to your hair.

Thinning around the hairline (including windows peak) and part.

Traditional hair extensions are used to fill out the sides and length of the hair. The position of the hand-tied, tape-in and cylinder extensions have to sit far enough back on the sides to not be exposed when pulling your natural hair back away from the face.

If you are very thin on the top of your head you may not have enough hair to cover more traditional extensions. However, there are solutions for that as well. Toppers and full wigs are a solution for those wanting to have the hair of their youth.

Wanting to wear your hair up with super fine hair

No mater the method of traditional extensions we can usually offer added fullness to most all thin haired clients. However, to fill out the sides for those with less density you may not be able to wear your hair up in a top knot or messy top bun. Unless you opt for bonded extension. All other methods may be visible on the sides when your hair is super fine and thin. However, it is not a no to getting extensions. Instead you can look at styling options with a low pony or side braid to keep the extensions hidden while pulling back your hair.

Excessive shedding

This is super important! if you are experiencing extreme hair shedding or hair loss it is important to address this first before putting any additional strain on the hair. When you are attaching your hair as the foundation of the extensions you need to ensure enough hair will remain to prevent breakage. If you are experiencing unusual hair loss be sure to tell your stylist. It may require moving up your extensions more frequently or taking break. If this is the situation feel free to message me with what is occurring and I am happy to help

Breakage or Weak hair

Chemical damage, hormonal imbalances or poor hair care can cause concern for adding extensions. At all times we want to ensure the health of your natural hair when adding extensions. Often it is a consultation with a stylist to shift over to professional products and trouble shooting home care to start the process. If there are hormonal imbalances, blood work to determine the cause is very important.

Often those seeking hair extensions are growing out an unwanted style or wanting thicker and fuller hair. And as an extension and hair loss specialist, wanting to provide that is always my goal. BUT it is important we all are working to improve your hair and ensure that years down the road extensions are a fun and enjoyable experience. But not necessary. Be sure to talk to me or your stylist on any of the above concerns before jumping into hair extensions.
