Do you wish you could wash your hair less often?
Do you feel that you spend WAY to many days a week having to wash and style your hair?
Have you tried to push out your shampoos only to be super frustrated? First you need to understand that going from daily washing to weekly washing or longer could days months to a year depending on your oil production. However, when you follow these tips you can start to gain back your time.
I was recently invited to be interviewed on this very topic on the WBTV morning show. Click here to watch the interview then read below for more details on how to train your hair to need less frequent washes.
Start slow
For daily washers you will want to add only one day. So go from daily to every other day. And it will take 2 weeks or so for your oil production to regulate. We train our scalp to produce a certain amount of oils based on how frequently we are washing. So you scalp will need to know that this is the new schedule. Once you have accomplished this frequency give it a month or so then add another day. And continue this till you have extended your washing to your desired time.
Hydrate your ends
Daily application of hair serum is important. Especially for medium and long length hair. This will ensure your hair is not drying out to quickly.
Brushing
It is important to brush your hair and scalp to distribute the natural oils at your scalp to the hair. A good boars head brush is a good tool to do this. Once in the morning and at night is perfect.
Co-Washing
If you have curly hair or short hair and you want to push out your shampooing to prevent drying out your hair co-washing is the perfect technique for you. Co-washing is simply wetting the hair and then applying conditioner. Then you rinse. This allows you to wet style and add moisture to your ends.
Partial washing
Lastly, a great way to extend your shampoos or just get a little more time back in the morning is to partially wash your hair. Usually the part we feel is flat or oily is the top of the head or bangs. So section your hair with the top in a clip, then put the rest in a pony tail. Tip your head over and only shampoo that zone, condition and now you only have to dry the top.
When its not healthy?
Experiencing hair loss? - Hair loss products usually require daily or every other day washing to ensure your scalp is being fed the nutrients it needs. If you are taking a lot of medications that can build up on the hair and scalp you will need to wash more frequently to prevent build up on the scalp leading to hair loss. And lastly, if you are using a lot of dry shampoo, hairspray and other products at the scalp that can build up. Again if your scalp has a lot of product build up it can also lead to the pores being clogged and causing hair loss.
I hope these tips are helpful to you and allow you to gain more time back in your week!
