Set your hair appointment up for success!

Do you ever wonder what you can do to make your hair appointment more successful? Or maybe you have ideas but you struggle with how to communicate those ideas. As a stylist I want to give you some ideas on how to prepare for your next hair appointment and what questions to ask or know in advance.

How Often do you want to visit the salon

Knowing how frequently you want to visit the salon for your maintenance appointments will ensure your stylist can create a look using techniques that will fit your lifestyle. If you are looking to come into the salon every 6-8 weeks you can select a higher maintenance look like a much lighter or darker look than your natural. But if your looking to only come into the salon 2 or 3 times a year then you need to look for more natural and live-in color. And the cut you select is also important. A short crop or stacked bob requires a trim every 4-6 weeks. But a lob, medium or long length cut with layers will grow out beautifully before needing a trim in 10-12 weeks. This is one of the most important things to discuss with your stylists and one of the first questions I ask anyone sitting in my chair the first time.

Beauty budget

Have you created a beauty budget and if so how much are you willing to allocate to it? This is something to consider before selecting a stylist and also a conversation before booking your first appointment. Looking over a prospective stylists service menu and pricing will help you determine if they are within your budget. It’s super helpful when the stylist has pre-set sessions or packages to allow you to see how much a service will cost. When a stylist is a-la-cart you may not understand all the charges your look can require. Which is why I have set up sessions for my clients. They can select the package that fits their budget and look. And we will also discuss ongoing options for what is needed to maintain the look and ways we can work their goals into their budget throughout the year.

What do you love and hate

Letting your stylist know what you love and also what frustrates you about your hair is also very important. Once your stylist knows your challenges and what works great for you they will be able to find solutions or work with what you already have.

How do you style your hair?

Now this is super important. If you bring in all photos of hair that is curled and blown out perfectly and you are a wash and go girl the color and cut will not look the same at home. Be sure to let your stylist know if you will be ironing your hair or simply letting your natural texture show by air drying. We can adjust our techniques to match what will make your hair look its best when your at home.

Previous hair history

And lastly, especially for any color service, we need to know any and all color services you have done in the past few years. Especially if you have hair past your shoulders. Hair grows 6 inches each year so those old highlights you had 3 years ago and covered up 2 years ago can be a factor. So be honest so we can ensure the outcome of your color is great and the condition of your hair is as well.

Knowing these the answer to these 5 key points will ensure your stylist is able to provide you the look, budget and ensure you look just as good outside of the salon as the day you left.
