When is your hair crying for a deep treatment?

If you have had a color or extension appointment in my studio you will see a “treat yourself” options on your appointment check-in form (aka experience customization form). My favorite to option offer my guests are in salon treatments. And they often ask what is the difference between an express, deluxe and luxury treatments I offer. And when do they need one?

So let’s talk treatments. Hair masques and deep treatments are not your every wash conditioners. They are to give your hair a deep drink of moisture, protein and or strength to the interior of the hair. The more often you wash or use heat and or have colored treated hair the dryer your hair can become. In salon treatments offer an array of treatments specifically to fit your hair needs.

Express Treatment

This treatment is the starting level of treatments and are also available for at home use. They needs to remain on the hair for at least 2-5 minutes. When you are in the salon I assure your hair is towel dried, and the treatment is distributed evenly all over the hair. If you love this treatment be sure to pick up the take home masque to continue between visits. These treatments provide added color protection and softness of your hair.

Examples of these treatments are Kevin.Murphy’s Hydrate.me.masque, Angel.Masque, Young.Again.Masque and Goldi Locks Masque

Deluxe Treatment

This is the next step up in salon exclusive treatments. And are only available by a licensed stylist. We are able to determine what special issues you could be experiencing and most often include bond builders, moisture & protein treatments. These treatments also usually remain on the for 5 to 10 minutes. Some under heath and others at room temperature. These treatments help to improve the quality, strength, shine and color retention of your hair.

Examples of these treatments are Olaplex, K18 in salon treatment, double masques (one protein/one moisture), and Brazilin Blowout’s Split End Mender.

Luxury Treatments

This category in my studio are the heavy hitters and usually offer repair, shine, frizz control, and extreme moisture that lasts 10-12 washes. These treatments also go under heat for 15-20 minutes depending on the condition of your hair and which treatment is used. These treatments lock in your color and are so repairing I can use them to skip a cut from time to time.

Examples of these treatments are Brazilian Blowouts Demi Permanent Conditioning treatment and Rewind.

And to wrap it up, when do you need a treatment?

It totally depends on how frequently you wash and heat style your hair. And express treatments should be a regular part of your at home care. If you are a daily shampooer then you should be doing an express treatment at least once per week. If you are washing 2-3 times per week then you should do a treatment every 2 weeks. For you weekly washers you will also want to do an a treatment at least once a month to keep your hair hydrated.

Doing an express treatment at the salon ensures you will have a 5 minute scalp massage as it has to stay on that long. And the other treatments are recommended based the condition of your hair and type of color you receive. Blonding services should be receiving protein, moisture and bond building treatments. Traditional color services should be considering moisture, shine and frizz control treatments. Each visit can change depending on the condition of your hair and long term goals. So be sure to chat with me or your stylist on how we can make your hair feel amazing, retain your color longer and make styling at home easier with a treatment at your next visit.
